In this post I am going to be explaining what ideas I got from watching these music videos and what I wouldn't use and why.
Ne-Yo - Miss Independent
In this video, I had a very simple idea that I might take from it, which was to do three different scenes. In particular, a story scene, a performance scene and a mix of the two. I really liked this because I think that it can help when trying to explain to the audience about what the story is about. I also liked how all of the settings had the same colour gradient, this links with the idea of making the story more obvious by not changing the mood by the colour. One thing that I would ue is the fashion from this video. This is because I think, this sing is more emotional than the song that I have chosen, so the mese en scene matches with the feel of the song. Also, the speed of the song is a lot slower, which means there wouldn't be bold and fast moving scenes. This contradicts my ideas.
Tyga ft. Chris Brown - For The Road
There were many things that I really liked in this video which I would love to replicate in my video but the skill in order to do it, will require lots of time. The first thing that I really liked is, while Chris Brown was dancing, at the end of the move, they slowed the clip right down which made the dance moves more powerful and gives the feeling of self-actualisation from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The second thing that I took inspiration from, was when the chorus came, there was a lot of fast paced inter-cutting between different settings while having a different colour gradient. I particularly enjoyed this because it makes the lyrics and the video more effective to the person watching it. If I decide to use this idea, i noticed to make the singular dancer stand out, they used a spot light which made the moves stronger. One thing that I will not be using from this, is the simple colour of everything (white). I think this only works because they are such big artists and they make themselves stand out, this wouldn't work for me because my main characters aren't famous, so we will need to make it obvious who the audience needs to focus on.
Finders Keepers - Mabel ft. Kojo Funds
As a whole, this music video is nearly identical of what I want to produce in my music video. I really like bold colours while having a dark surrounding. As well as having all the iconic party scenes, performing scene and a mix of the two. One thing that I might use, is in the party scene, you have a crowd of people in a circle while one person in the middle doing dance moves. I like how this makes the dancers stand out without having to use mese en scene to do so. One thing that I wouldn't use is all the scenes of the partners kissing. I feel this would be difficult to find due to camera shy, I don't think that it is needed anyway.
